چکیده

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that several provisions of the 1982 Pennsylvania Abortion Control Act were unconstitutional because they obstructed a woman's right to abortion. These provisions included requirements that a woman be advised of possible medical assistance for childbirth and of the father's responsibility for child support, and that a physician inform the woman of abortion's detrimental psychological and physical effects. A provision calling for the presence of a second physician whenever the fetus might be viable was unconstitutional in failing to create an exception where the mother's life was endangered. The increase in risk to the mother rendered invalid another provision of the law which required the use of certain abortion techniques whenever viability was possible. Several lengthy dissents to the majority opinion are part of the decision.
